For the month of July I have pledged to go plastic free. I actually signed up to for this challenge back in January when I stumbled across their page and it was there I decided that July's challenge had been set.
We live in a consumerist world, where everything is fast fashion, and one time use only. It's time for us to start thinking about the future of our planet. Our Oceans are in serious trouble, the videos I have watched share heart breaking stories of whales who have starved to death due to 30+ plastic bags trapped in their stomachs. It's terrible that our marine life is stuck with this all because of us humans.
During the past few months I have spent a lot of time researching and understanding the damaging effects that plastic has on our planet and I am excited to be able to take part in this challenge and make a change. As I began to prepare myself for this challenge I became very conscious of my plastic habits and I have already implemented some positive changes before starting this month.
I quit the BIG 4 back in January in favor of more sustainable options.
I found a brand called bkr who create the cutest glass water bottles. A friend of mine from San Francisco who I met while I was travelling had one and I fell in love with it on the spot. I promptly ordered myself one while I was still travelling. I use it every single day and will not leave the house without it. If you are out and about and run out of water if you pop into a cafe and ask nicely they will usually fill it up for you.
I also have a Starbucks reusable coffee cup (not my favourite brand but it does the job) I actually only drink tea but still it's very handy to have a reusable cup. Most of the time I prefer to ask for a mug and then I can skip all of the single use items.
My mum bought me and my sisters these really cute grocery shop bags that are green and they are perfectly small enough to keep in your handbag so if you find yourself shopping unexpectedly then you don't need to buy a plastic bag.
Now that my no spending challenge is over I am keen to treat myself to a set of travel utensils so I am no longer forced into using plastic cutlery. I try to carry these things with me when I am prepared but they don't always make it into my bag. So I am on the hunt to find a suitable solution. I will keep you posted if I find the right tool.
As always wish me luck! I plan to keep a record of all the items of plastic I encounter, hopefully it will be zero to minimal.
Thank you for reading and supporting my journey of inner growth!
With love & gratitude.
